Richland Pig Fest is Back and Growing

“Pig Fest Gospel Night” Coming Nov. 10!

Good news!  Not only is Pig Fest back in Richland this year, it will be bigger and better than ever in 2016.  In addition to the regular Friday night and Saturday events, Pig Fest will open on Thursday with a great new family night for all ages.  We all know that gospel singing is a celebration of life in Georgia for so many and we plan to bring all of our communities together in fellowship as we invite area churches and gospel groups to come and share their music and kick off Pig Fest weekend.  Bring your family and your chairs and set up in front of the stage for great local music.  Visit with your friends; make new friends.  It is free to everyone!

There are plans being made to offer an early dinner at a very reasonable cost to those of you who would like to have dinner in town with your friends and family before the music begins.  We will provide more information on the menu and cost closer to “Pig Fest Gospel Night."

Friday night is also special as we promote our young musicians by highlighting area up-and-coming bands with a “Battle of the Bands” competition offering big prize money for the winner.  Barbecue is still the focus as backyard teams cook to win trophies and bragging rights!  In addition to naming the backyard champions on Saturday the fun will continue with the carnival, motorcycle games for charity, vendors, schools, local talent and a headliner closing!

Be sure to watch your newspaper for more details for all three days of Pig Fest, November 10, 11 and 12.  Make your plans early and don’t miss out on any of the fun!

Partner with Pig Fest XIX

Community members partnered with Main Street in a town-hall meeting this spring to share ideas for porking up Pig Fest 19.  As a result there is a lot to look forward to this year.  The call now is for you to join in.

There are many ways to contribute. Pig Fest lovers everywhere can get involved.  You don’t have to barbecue, do fireworks, sing in a band, run a carnival, sell food or arts and crafts to be involved.   Volunteers are needed before and during Pig Fest.

There are many opportunities to help.  You could post or help distribute advertising, help judge or set up and organize activities, do face painting, read and write with children, share your stories of Richland of the past and best yet, become a sponsor.  For the first time, we have a $50.00 sponsor level.  Of course, you might choose to contribute at any level so that Pig Fest continues for years to come.

New to Pig Fest this year is the Gospel Singing on Thursday night.  There will be a children’s Piggy Park set up on Saturday with activities designed for fun and learning.  Battle of the Bands is new for Friday night.  On Saturday, the stage entertainment will begin at ten AM and not end until midnight with our own Jimmy Gaddy on the microphone.

The Carnival will offer traditional fall fun with rides and food.  Fireworks, street dancing, music, food, shopping, motorcycle games and the crowning of a new Back Yard Barbeque King will result in fun for everyone.  As soon as the Back-Yard Barbecue winners are announced, we are having a corn-hole tournament as a sport venue with everyone invited to come and cheer on your favorite team or player.  There will be a cash prize for the winner. You won’t want to miss that.

Almost every event can use volunteer help.
